Castle Defense โ How to Play, Tips & Strategy
Castle Defense is the game that started Playing in the Sand: a 3D toy-soldier battle where you build a sandcastle fortress by day and defend it from waves rolling in off the sea. Command the whole battlefield from above โ or dive into the boots of any single soldier and fight in first person.

What is Castle Defense?
Castle Defense is a free browser strategy game that mixes two genres in one match. In the RTS view you see the beach from above like a general leaning over a sandbox: you place walls and towers, recruit toy soldiers, and set up your defenses during the calm daytime phase. When enemies storm in from the water, you can keep issuing orders from above โ or possess any unit and play the fight as a first-person shooter. Every wave you survive earns resources for bigger walls, stronger towers and more troops, and each new day the sea sends something meaner.
- 1Top bar โ sand, points and the day timer
- 2Build & unit buttons โ spend before nightfall
- 3Minimap โ red dots are landings from the sea
How to play
- Use the day phase to build. Open the build menu and spend your resources on walls, towers and soldiers. The day timer is your safe window โ waste none of it.
- Shape the battlefield. Place walls so attackers are funneled into narrow lanes that your towers and soldiers can cover.
- Position your garrison. Put ranged soldiers on walls and towers, and keep melee units near the gaps enemies will squeeze through.
- Fight the wave. Enemies come from the sea. Command from the RTS view, or possess a soldier to aim and shoot yourself when a lane starts to buckle.
- Rebuild and upgrade. After the wave, repair damage, upgrade your best towers, and expand before the next day ends.

Tips & strategy
- ๐ฐSpend everything before nightfall. Resources sitting in your pocket stop zero attackers. End every day phase with an empty wallet and a fuller castle.
- ๐งฑFunnel, don't surround. A V-shaped wall layout that squeezes enemies into one killzone beats a thin ring around your whole castle every time.
- ๐ผUpgrade before you sprawl. One upgraded tower on the main lane usually out-kills three fresh level-one towers scattered along the beach.
- ๐ฎPossess at the crisis point. Your manual aim is better than a toy soldier's. When the biggest enemy of the wave lands, jump into a soldier on that lane and delete it yourself.
- ๐๏ธWatch the whole shoreline. Later waves land at more than one point. Zoom out between kills so a side landing doesn't reach an unguarded wall.
- ๐งRepair between waves. Cracked walls fall first. Fixing a damaged section is far cheaper than replacing a breached one mid-fight.
- ๐ก๏ธKeep a reserve squad. Two or three soldiers stationed behind the castle can plug any hole faster than you can build one.
FAQ

Yes โ completely free, in your browser, with no download, install or account required. Just open the page and play.
