Sands of the Dead β How to Play, Tips & Strategy
The beach is a lot less relaxing after dark. Sands of the Dead drops you on the sand with a pistol, endless waves of zombies, and one job: survive. This guide covers the weapon unlock order, kill-streak play, and how to handle the brutes that start crashing the party at wave 6.

What is Sands of the Dead?
Sands of the Dead is a free 3D zombie wave-survival shooter that runs right in your browser. You fight in first person by default, but a tap of V switches to third person whenever you want more situational awareness. Every wave is bigger and faster than the last, and your arsenal grows to match: you start with a trusty pistol, unlock the SMG at wave 3, and pick up the shotgun at wave 5. Chaining kills quickly builds kill streaks for bonus rewards β and from wave 6, hulking brute zombies force you to rethink everything.
- 1Wave tracker β wave, kills, points
- 2Crosshair β hold right-click to zoom
- 3Health & stamina β green HP, teal sprint
- 4Weapon & ammo β magazine / reserve
How to play
- Survive wave 1 with the pistol. Keep your distance, aim for heads, and get used to the movement.
- Move constantly. Standing still is how runs end. Strafe, sprint, and never let zombies form a circle around you.
- Use right-click zoom. Zooming tightens your aim for clean long-range headshots β essential while the pistol is all you have.
- Collect your unlocks. The SMG arrives at wave 3 for crowd control, the shotgun at wave 5 for heavy hitters. Switch weapons to match the threat.
- Chain kills for streaks. Fast consecutive kills build a streak with bonus rewards β keep the pressure on without wasting whole magazines.
- Respect the brutes. From wave 6 onward, brute zombies soak damage and hit like a truck. Kite them backwards and feed them shotgun shells.

Tips & strategy
- πCircle the arena, never backpedal. Walking backwards in a straight line lets the horde close in from the sides. Run wide circles around the beach so the crowd bunches into one chaseable blob behind you.
- π―Zoom for headshots early. Pistol ammo goes twice as far when every right-click shot lands on a head. Treat waves 1β2 like target practice.
- π«Match weapon to job. SMG shreds packed crowds, shotgun deletes brutes and anything at point-blank range, pistol stays accurate at distance. Swapping mid-fight is faster than reloading.
- π₯Feed the streak, don't spray. Kill streaks reward steady, quick kills. Controlled bursts keep the chain alive longer than emptying a magazine into one zombie.
- ποΈUse V between fights. Third person shows what's sneaking up behind you; switch back to first person when it's time to aim.
- πKite the brutes. When a brute locks on, walk backwards just out of its reach, unload the shotgun, and let the SMG finish. Never trade hits β one brute swing can undo a whole wave of good play.
- πΊοΈReposition at wave end. Use the lull between waves to move to open ground. Getting caught in a corner when the next wave spawns is a death sentence.
